  • We read your poll's switches first

Crowdsignal offers one vote per IP address or repeat voting under a rate threshold, and Kahoot hosts can lock a live game. Whichever switch is on shapes the plan.

  • A plain no when the rules say no

If the organiser's rules or the tool's terms rule out outside votes, the answer is no, given before anything is agreed and before any money moves.

  • Votes paced to the poll's clock

The closing date sets the pace. Votes are planned across the days a poll stays open and never dropped in one lump.

  • Refunds follow delivery, not results

Votes ordered for a poll that never appear on its count are refunded. The result itself is never part of the deal, because the organiser decides it.

  1. Copy the poll's link

Open the poll, copy its address from the browser bar and mail it with the closing date and the platform it runs on.

  2. We check the switches and the rules

We look at what the creator switched on or off, such as vote limits per IP address, and read any organiser rules about outside votes.

  3. The answer comes in writing

The written answer says what the poll counts and what its rules allow. If the rules forbid outside votes, that is the whole answer.

  4. Check the poll's own count

The count on the poll page is the record. Compare it with the plan and raise any gap while the poll is open; the organiser's final count can still differ.

Rules come from the platform and the organiser

X prohibits coordinating with or compensating others to inflate engagement metrics, and it names Polls among the features covered. The Pet Industry Business Awards name the consequence in their own contest: a business may be investigated, lose votes or be disqualified on reasonable evidence of purchased votes. No seller can stop an organiser from doing that.

Why ordinary voting looks ordinary

Slido says it is alerted when an event gets an unusually high number of votes in a very short time, and Crowdsignal says its built-in measures detect patterns of potentially abusive voting. Ordinary participation arrives spread across the voting window, from different people at different moments. Nothing on this site is a method for getting a vote past a check, and a vote that a tool blocks does not count.

The legal position, and what is refused

Organiser rules differ: the RSPCA Pet of the Year Awards allow extra votes through donations on their official mechanism, while OpenTable Australia treats a vote cast in exchange for money or a reward as null and void. Both are contest rules, not statutes, and whether payment is lawful where you live is a question for a lawyer. Orders are refused for any contest whose rules ban paid votes, and for political ballots.

What a refund covers, and what it never does

Votes ordered for a poll that never appear on its count are refunded after the poll closes. A refund never covers an organiser's decision: Localsearch may void all votes for a disqualified nominee, and Mentimeter says a user whose access it cancels under its Acceptable Use Policy is owed no refund or compensation. No result is promised.

Zoho Survey: the API, the free plan and how its polls work

Yes, and the switch differs by tool. Jotform offers a submission limit that checks both browser cookies and IP address, and Zoho Survey lets organisers use cookies or unique URLs to limit respondents to one set of responses. StrawPoll leaves duplicate handling to the creator, so results are only as reliable as those settings.

Bots, VPNs and double voting, on the tools named here. StrawPoll blocks bots and VPN users from voting by default, and its anonymous polls run a strict double-voting check involving IP addresses. SurveyLegend silently ignores votes from detected spambots, so nothing from them is recorded.

The platform's settings decide. On Twitch a streamer can enable extra poll votes using Channel Points, the TikTok voting sticker in an ad lets each person vote only once, and Microsoft Teams Q&A gives each attendee one upvote per question.

No. The RSPCA Pet of the Year Awards allow extra votes through donations on their own official mechanism. Opening Act's voting rules let eligible voters purchase additional votes, yet competitors caught purchasing votes for themselves may be disqualified. SiriusXM Canada, by contrast, may void votes obtained through payment, so the rule belongs to each poll or contest.

Some do. Localsearch may void all votes for a nominee who is disqualified, and if a winner is disqualified after the announcement it may give the prize to the nominee with the next highest number of valid votes. The organiser of 38 Most Influential Bluesky Posters says votes recorded after voting closes are ignored.

Each tool draws its own line. Slido's free Basic plan allows three polls and one quiz per Slido and has a 100-participant limit, and Mentimeter's free plan runs presentations until the account reaches a total of 50 participants in a month. StrawPoll's free plan has unlimited polls and votes, with ads. A 100-participant cap does not care how good your question is.

The poll link, the platform it runs on, when it closes and what you want to know about it. A screenshot of the settings screen helps if you can see that screen. Send it all in one mail.

No. The organiser counts the votes and confirms the result, and can void votes or disqualify an entry. A count on screen is not a result. Anyone who promises a win is promising something they do not control.
